Community Involvement

The Louisville Kennel Club does more than sponsor dog shows and public education events to promote responsible dog ownership.  It is felt that it is important to be involved in many areas of the community.

When members of the Louisville Kennel Club heard that the Louisville Metro Police Department had lost two of their invaluable police dogs, one through retirement and one from a fatal injury, the club voted to raise money to purchase another dog for the Department.  From a special raffle held at the March show two years ago more than $5,000.00 was raised for this purpose.  Enough money from a special raffle held later in the year purchased a bullet-proof vest for the dog.  Tessa, a beautiful Belgian Malinois, is now a well-trained, experienced member of the canine unit of the Metro Police Department.  Tessa has made several exciting apprehensions of criminals in most dangerous situations.  The Club voted recently to donate another $5,000.00, funds raised at the 2004 March show, to purchase another dog for the police department.

Another area of vital interest is the Kentucky Harvest program.  Food is collected at special events for this most worthy program.  Additionally, canned goods may be substituted for a portion of the admission price at the dog shows.
